QR code scams are increasing, FTC warns

By MindStick

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a public warning regarding the increasing number of QR code scams and frauds.

FTC reported that scammers are using QR codes to steal personal information, install malware, and commit financial fraud.

Scammers conceal dangerous URLs within QR codes, overlay fake codes over authentic ones, and create urgency, according to the FTC.

Check URLs for misspellings, use secure apps, and avoid entering personal information into websites accessed via QR codes to avoid QR code frauds.

Be cautious of unsolicited QR codes, especially in public areas, and report any scams to the FTC at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/.
