History of Makeup

By MindStick

Makeup stretches back to ancient Egypt, where it was thought to honour gods and protect against the sun and harmful spirits.

They used natural substances such as kohl for eyeliner, green malachite for eyelid colour, and henna for lip and nail dyeing.

In the Indus Valley Civilisation used natural ingredients like turmeric, lac in cosmetics like kohl, powder to line eyes, and enhance lip colour.

Ancient Greeks and Romans prefered natural makeup, such as white lead powder for face lightening, rouge for cheek & lip colour, and kohl for eyeliner.

Today, makeup has grown in popularity, with a wide range of cosmetics available for people of various ages and to improve their appearance.
