Oarfish are big, elongated pelagic fish found in temperate and tropical oceans.
They are gigantic, being the longest bony fish, measuring up to 11 metres.
They are deep-sea fish that reside between 250 and 1,000 metres (660 and 3,300 ft) below the surface.
They are rarely seen on the surface.
According to local folklore, they can sense earthquakes and tsunamis, warn humans by entering the surface, but no scientific evidence to support this.
