How did ropes originate?

By MindStick

The origins of rope are uncertain, but archaeological evidence suggests it was developed around 10,000 BC during the Paleolithic era.

It was most likely made of natural fibres like vines, grasses, and animal hair, and were used for hunting, fishing, and construction.

During the Middle Ages, it evolved into a specialised craft with guilds protecting trade secrets, new fibres like hemp and cotton were introduced.

Later, spinning and twisting machinery introduced during the Industrial Revolution revolutionised rope-making, lead to popularity of synthetic fibres.

Now, rope is a popular material for crafts and hobbies, as well as a significant tool in construction, transportation, sailing, and fishing.
