Why do earthquakes occur?

By MindStick

Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates, the enormous portions of the Earth's crust, move and scrape against each other.

Plates come together, move apart, or glide past each other, generating pressure buildup and rapid energy release, resulting in an earthquake.

Furthermore, it is more common in the Ring of Fire region around the Pacific Ocean due to the constant movement of the Pacific Plate.

It can cause serious damage and destruction, such as building collapse, bridge collapse, road cracking, landslides, and even tsunamis.

Scientists are actively studying and understanding earthquakes, working on improved prediction methods and measures to minimise the impact.
