Why did slavery begin?

By MindStick

Slavery's exact beginnings are uncertain, however it has existed in many societies for at least 11,000 years or more than before.

It is assumed to have evolved alongside agricultural progress and the birth of sophisticated communities.

Ancient Mesopotamia's Code of Hammurabi, dating back to 1750 BCE, contains some of the earliest instances of slavery.

Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, China, and other ancient civilisations had slaves to be used for mines, farms, soldiers, concubines & entertainers

Slave labour was a cost-effective option for kings, who could either purchase them from slave traders or capture them during war.
