Creatonotos gangis, often known as the hairy pencil moth, is a species of arctiine moth found in South-east Asia and Australia.
It is a medium-sized moth with a 4 cm wingspan, white hindwings and brown forewings, each with a dark streak, and a red or yellow abdomen.
Males have distinctive four grey-colored coremata, specialized scent organs used to attract mates, which can extend beyond the abdomen when inflated.
Their brown, hairy, and yellow-striped moths feed on plants that produce pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which they use to ward off predators and parasites.
When the caterpillars reach maturity, they pupate in a silken cocoon. The adults will emerge from the cocoons after a few weeks.
