Bizarre looking brazilian treehopper

The Brazilian treehopper also known as Bocydium globulare is a type of insect in the Membracidae family.

They are also famously known for their unique look and native to South America, and have been introduced to Africa, Asia, and Australia.

It is a 5-6mm insect, features a cluster of ball-shaped growths on its back, possibly used to camouflage or deter predators.

They are sapsuckers, feed on plant sap, potentially causing crop pests but also playing a crucial role in ecosystem pollination.

They are not harmful to humans but can cause crop infestations. Hand removal or mild insecticidal soap can be used to control infestations.
