Zealandia, 8th continent discovered

By MindStick

Zealandia, the eighth continent discovered in 2017, is the smallest, thinnest, and youngest, with a majority of its surface under water.

It was previously a part of the supercontinent Gondwana, but split apart around 83 million years ago.

It is home to some of the world's oldest rocks, some of which date back more than a billion years.

It is half the size of Australia, has only 7% of its area above sea level, with New Zealand and New Caledonia as the principal islands.

Scientists and general public are becoming more interested in Zealandia, a unique continent, and are working hard to protect & conserve its ecosystems
