The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Welthungerhilfe established the Global Hunger Index (GHI) in 2006.
It is an annual peer-reviewed report that extensively monitors and tracks hunger at the global, regional, and country levels.
They give scores based on 5 levels; Low: 0 to 9.9, Moderate: 10 to 19.9, Serious: 20 to 29.9, Severe: 30 to 39.9, and Extremely alarming: 40 or above.
GHI is a crucial tool for monitoring global efforts to reduce hunger and malnutrition, raising awareness, and advocating for effective policies.
Global GHI scores have declined by 35% since 2000, although progress has stalled, putting the world on track to achieve zero hunger by 2030.
