John Stith Pemberton, an Atlanta, Georgia pharmacist, invented Coca-Cola in 1886.
He set out to make a patent remedy for headaches & exhaustion, experimenting with coca leaves & kola nuts until coming up with Coca-Cola syrup.
He first marketed Coca-Cola as a fountain drink at Jacobs' Pharmacy in Atlanta, quickly became popular, in 1889 selling rights to Asa Griggs Candler.
Candler's successful marketing tactics led to Coca-Cola's global popularity, gaining market share in every US state by 1900.
In 20th-century, its success led to expansion, product development & becoming world's largest beverage company, selling products to over 200 countries
