George Crum, a cook at Moon's Lake House in Saratoga Springs, New York, invented potato chips by accident in 1853.
A customer grumbled about the thickness of their French-fried potatoes, which Crum surprised by slicing and frying till crispy.
Later, his popular "Saratoga Chips" led him to open a restaurant in 1860, and by the late 1890s, potato chips were globally marketed.
The potato chip gained popularity as a convenient and inexpensive snack meal. It was portable and didn't require any preparation.
Today, potato chips are a globally popular snack food enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds.
