He purchased the Atlanta, Georgia-based potato chip company "Barrett Food Company" in 1938 and renamed it "H.W. Lay Lingo & Company."
Known for his high-quality potato chips & innovative marketing, travelled across the southern United States to sell them to various businesses.
He was the first snack food maker to buy television advertising & develop new flavours such as salt, vinegar & barbeque in 1944.
In 1961, His company and Frito Company joined to establish Frito-Lay, Inc., a leading US snack food producer, then in 1965, they merged with PepsiCo.
Moreover, Lay's potato chips are now distributed in over 150 countries worldwide.
