Oldest surgery in the world

The earliest known operation in the world was an amputation performed on a young adult 31,000 years ago in Borneo, Indonesia.

It was recovered in Liang Tebo cave, survived surgery, and lived for 6–9 years after amputation for a seriously infected or wounded left leg.

More evidences like a 7,000-year-old French skeleton exhibits traces of a surgical amputation of the left forearm.

A 3,300-year-old Indus Valley Civilisation skeleton exhibits traces of trepanation, a treatment that involves drilling a hole in the skull.

The Sushruta Samhita, a 600 BC Indian medical treatise, describes over 1,100 surgical operations such as cataract surgery and caesarean section.
