In 1608 the first known telescope was invented in the Netherlands.

The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC), located in La Palma in the Canary Islands, is the world's largest telescope.

The Hubble Space Telescope, which was launched in 1990, made key discoveries, including the first photos of exoplanets and evidence of the universe.

The James Webb Space Telescope, set to launch in December 2021, is expected to make significant discoveries about the universe.
