Why are there 7 wonders of the world and given by whom?

By MindStick

Herodotus, a Greek historian, compiled the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World in the fifth century BC.

It included: Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus, Mauseoleum, Colossus of Rhodes & Alexandria Lighthouse.

Only the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of these wonders, still exists today. Earthquakes, fires, and other natural disasters destroyed the rest.

In the year 2000, a Swiss foundation initiated a campaign to identify the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza, the Colosseum, Cristo Redentor, Machu Picchu, Petra, and the Taj Mahal were the 2007 winners & became official.
