Mount Everest, the highest point above sea level, was formally established by the Chinese & Nepali govt. in 2020 at an elevation of 8,848.86 metres.
It is located on the boundary between Nepal and Tibet, a Chinese autonomous province. The China-Nepal boundary passes through its peak.
It is part of the Mahalangur Himal Himalayan sub-range. Other significant peaks nearby are Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
Edmund Hillary of New Zealand & Tenzing Norgay of Nepal became the first to ascend Mount Everest. They accomplished this on May 29, 1953.
Furthermore, the air pressure at Mount Everest's summit is about one-third of sea level, making it challenging to breathe.
