The star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata) is a tiny, insectivorous North American mole.
It is well recognised for its distinctive star-shaped snout, which is covered in 22 fleshy tendrils.
They can dive underwater to obtain prey and are superb swimmers.
They have no sight and rely only on their senses of smell and touch to navigate and interact with the world.
They are the only mole species that can survive in water.
