How did the first camera work?

By MindStick

The first camera was a dark room with a small hole, allowing light from outside to pass through and project an upside-down image on the opposite wall.

In 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce invented the first camera capable of producing permanent photos.

His camera was extremely slow, requiring several hours of exposure time to generate an acceptable image.

Later, Louis Daguerre invented a new form of camera in 1839, employing a silver-plated copper plate coated with iodine vapour.

Today's cameras use obscura to project a picture onto a light-sensitive substance, generating a permanent record of the image.
