First photo in the world

By Anjita D.

View from the Window at Le Gras, taken by French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826, is the world's oldest surviving photograph.

It's a basic shot of a view from Niépce's estate in France's Burgundy area, and it took eight hours to expose.

The shot is quite faint, but it is still visible, and it is an impressive accomplishment.

He utilized heliography, a technique that involves covering a metal plate with Judean bitumen, a light-sensitive material.

The plate was exposed to light, causing the bitumen to harden. The unhardened bitumen was removed, leaving a permanent image.
