The horn shark egg is without a doubt one of the strangest animal eggs on the earth.
It has a corkscrew shape with ridges that form a spiral around the egg.
The female horn shark uses its distinctive form to wedge the egg into a rocky nook, where it is safe from predators and currents.
The egg casing is approximately 5 inches long. Each egg case houses one embryo. It takes between six and nine months for the embryo to hatch.
They are frequently discovered on rocky reefs and kelp forests off the California coast.
