CAP (Community acquires pneumonia) is an infection that is caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Onset of CAP: Symptoms manifest in non-hospitalized individuals within the community.

Causes of CAP: Streptococcus pneumonia, haemophilus influenza and viruses like influenza.

HAP (Hospitalized acquired pneumonia) also known as nosocomial pneumonia that occurs during hospitalization, typically for 48 hours or more.

Onset of HAP: Symptoms develop while the patient is in the hospital for another condition.

Causes of HAP: Methicillin resistant, staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, and other multidrug resistant.
