Worm that eat plastics

By MindStick

The wax worm, commonly known as Galleria mellonella larvae, is a worm that eats polymers.

Polythene, one of the most prevalent forms of plastic used in bags, packaging, and other products, can be digested by wax worms.

In just 12 hours, wax worms were able to destroy 92% of a piece of polythene.

Scientists believe it is due to a variety of elements, including enzymes in their saliva and microorganisms in their gut.

Researchers want to figure out how to use wax worms to help reducing the problem of plastic pollution.
