Why is Cleopatra so popular?

By MindStick

Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of Egypt and ruled at a time when women were rarely given positions of power.

She has been the subject of numerous books, plays, and films. Roman writers often describe her as a seductive and dangerous temptress.

She was also a skilled military leader and spoke nine languages. She was well-educated in philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy.

She had relationships with two of the most powerful men, Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.

She was defeated by Octavian, who became the first Roman emperor. She is said to have committed suicide by snakebite, rather than fall into his hands.
