Jaundice is a condition characterised by the yellow discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera due to elevated levels of bilirubin.
1. Pre-hepatic : Occurs before the liver & is typically caused by an increased breakdown of red blood cells or impaired bilirubin uptake by the liver.
2. Hepatic : Occurs due to impaired bilirubin processing and conjugation in the liver.
3. Post-Hepatic : Also known as obstructive jaundice, occurs due to the obstruction of bile flow from the liver to the small intestine.
