Vaishaki, also spelled Baisakhi, is an annual festival celebrated mainly by the Sikh community in India and around the world.
It falls on April 13 or 14 each year, marking the beginning of the Hindu solar new year and the harvest season in the northern region of India.
For Sikhs, it is a very important day as it marks the formation of the Khalsa, the community of initiated Sikhs, by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
Sikhs celebrate their special occasions with processions, music, and dance performances. They also visit gurdwaras, their place of worship.
The festival involves traditional Punjabi food such as Sarson ka Saag, Makki di Roti, and sweet milk-based desserts like rasgulla and gulab jamun.
