Subhash Chandra Bose was born to a wealthy lawyer family on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Orissa, India.
He was a brilliant student and graduated with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Calcutta in 1919.
In 1921, Bose joined the Indian National Congress and became a prominent leader in the party, but later he split with the Congress.
Bose was elected president of the Indian National Congress in 1938 but later resigned due to differences with Mahatma Gandhi.
He formed the Forward Bloc in 1939 as a new political platform to fight for India's independence from British rule.
In 1940, Bose escaped from British custody and fled to Germany to seek help from Adolf Hitler to form Indian army to fight against British colonialism
Bose formed the Indian National Army (INA) in 1942, composed of Indian prisoners of war and soldiers who defected from the British Indian Army.
In 1943, Bose declared the formation of the Provisional Government of Free India in Singapore, with himself as the Head of State.
Bose died on August 18, 1945, in a plane crash in Taiwan under mysterious circumstances, which remains a topic of debate and speculation today.
