Here are some facts about Lord Mountbatten

Lord Mountbatten was a member of the British royal family and a prominent statesman and military leader.

He served as the last Viceroy of India, overseeing the transition of the Indian subcontinent from British rule to independence in 1947.

Mountbatten was born Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1900, the youngest child of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine.

In 1947, Mountbatten was appointed Viceroy of India by Prime Minister Clement Attlee.

He served in the Royal Navy during World War I and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the First Sea Lord in 1955.

He played a key role in negotiating the partition of India and Pakistan, which resulted in the creation of two independent states.

Mountbatten was also involved in other notable events and initiatives throughout his career, including the formation of the Western European Union

He died in 1979 at the age of 79, after being assassinated by the Irish Republican Army.
