Savarkar was born on May 28, 1883, in the village of Bhagur, in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, India.
He was a prominent member of the Hindu Mahasabha, a Hindu nationalist political party, and a leading figure in the movement of hindu nation creation
Savarkar was arrested and imprisoned for his involvement in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.
He was later acquitted of the charges and released from prison.

Savarkar was also a writer and philosopher, and is credited with coining the term 'Hindutva,' which refers Hindus constitute a nation
