Some Lesser known facts on Jallianwala Bagh massacre

By MindStick

Jallianwala Bagh was neither a park nor a garden.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place on Baisakhi day on 13 April 1919.

The assembled people, estimated at 10,000, were holding a peaceful protest against the draconian Rowlatt Act

A force of around 50 soldiers commanded by Brig. Gen. Reginald Edward Harry Dyer reached Jallianwala Bagh and fired

The firing lasted for 10 to 15 minutes. An estimated 1,650 rounds of bullets were fired at the crowd.

Besides those killed by the ammunition, some died jumping into a well in the garden

The Hunter Commission, set up by the British government, indicted Dyer for the massacre.
