Why can't we live without technology?

Playing text to speech

Being a college student, I have always wondered about this question, how life would be without the massive technological inventions of today. There is no doubt that our everyday life has changed immensely due to the advent of technology. It has become faster, more dynamic, and more comfortable. The vast majority of people are glued to technology, whether they are looking at their own or even sharing someone else’s device.

There is no clear consensus about the possibility of life without technology but we cannot imagine surviving without technology in today’s fast-moving world. All aspects of our life are influenced by technology. It is a societal advancement that has allowed our generation to do things previous generations would never have dreamed of.

Furthermore, the coronavirus epidemic has shown the significance of technology in our day-to-day existence. It helped us communicate, work, keep connected, and generally get by. Technology also helped us in meeting our food needs during the lockdown of markets and grocery stores. It also has been essential in helping those who have survived the pandemic and kept their jobs.

Think of a day living without any technology, no mobile phones, no traffic lights, no fridge or washing machines, nothing. A mere snapshot of what life without modern technology would look like is going to make your heart sink. It would be an understatement to say that a day without technology would send our civilization into disarray. Society would regress by at least half a century without technology.

Nearly anything can now be done from anywhere thanks to technology, which is the internet. In reality, remote existence is a byproduct of technology. Without the Internet, globalization would not have been feasible. We have internet access, which allows us to connect and work from anywhere in the world. Because we have internet access, we can meet with clients and get requirements from all over the world, as well as integrate information and process delivery.

We have benefited from technology in many ways. Life-saving technology exists. Scientific and technical advancements have enabled major surgeries, scans, and medical diagnoses. Without technology, modern employment, education, and communication would be nearly impossible. For academics and researchers, publishing a thesis in a remote setting that involves technology is simple. We feel fulfilled and joyful since it has given us meaningful content and entertainment to pass the time. Technology-enabled communications have helped to foster a global workplace culture. Interacting with family while working anywhere in the world is no longer a problem. Through the use of computers and the internet, technology has demonstrated to us how to cross the boundaries of space and time. People throughout the world can now more easily and affordably obtain education thanks to this.

Food would not be as available or plentiful without technology, which would increase the rate of malnutrition and shorten life expectancy. Additionally, without technology, diseases would spread through society and kill a lot more people than they do now. An example of this would be the widespread availability of vaccines. Without technology, life expectancy would consequently sharply decline since fewer individuals would make it past infancy or childhood.

Technology doesn't just impact our work and school; it's everywhere in our daily lives. Think about how easy it is to buy things online using apps like Big Basket or Blinkit. You can pick what you need, click a few buttons, and those items show up at your door. This isn't just about making life more convenient; it has become super important, especially during tough times like the global pandemic.

Modes of payment have also changed a lot because of technology. Now, you can transfer money using your smartphones, which is a big deal. It doesn't just make things more convenient; it also means we don't have to rely so much on using physical money. This not only makes things safer but also helps our financial system work better. This was especially helpful during the pandemic because we could avoid using cash and lower the risk of spreading the virus.

Schools have also changed a lot. With online classes becoming more common, learning isn't just about sitting in a classroom. Even though it was a bit tricky at first, both students and teachers have figured out how to use digital classrooms. Now, it's not about where you live; anyone from anywhere can join in. This shift has made education more equal, letting people from different places share their ideas and learn together. Technology has opened up new ways for us to learn and connect.

We can’t live without technology, but we must pay attention to the way we use it. If I am asked if I can live without technology, I can say that I can’t, let me be honest with myself I can’t afford it without cellphones or any gadgets in daily life. I have been trained, we have been trained by technology. Without technology in today's generation, we probably will not be able to live long because our lives revolve around technology to facilitate our work and make our work easier.

Of course, technology also has some ill effects like most other consumption like spending too much time on screens can be tough on our eyes and health. It might make us sit a lot without moving, and some people can become a bit too attached to their gadgets. Also, the fast changes in technology lead to more electronic waste, which isn't great for the environment. However, when we consider all of the positive and negative aspects of technology, the positive effects outweigh the negative ones. It all comes down to striking a balance and utilizing technology sensibly and healthily.

Achieving a balance in our technology usage is essential to maximizing its beneficial elements while minimizing its negative ones.  Despite its drawbacks, technology plays a big part in every part of our contemporary lives. It now has a significant impact on how we work, study, and interact with others in our daily lives. Our physical selves are not built to function without technology. Without technology, we would be like beavers without dams and birds without nests. Without it, we cannot survive.
