According to the most recent Bloomberg Billionaires Index numbers, Gautam Adani is once again the richest person in Asia.

The Adani Group's founder and chairman reclaimed the top slot in Asia, dethroning Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, who had taken the top spot after Hindenburg Research accused the Adani Group of "brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud" over decades.

The study shook investor confidence and cost Adani Group companies billions of dollars in market value.

Adani's victory came just days after the Indian Supreme Court declared that no additional investigations were required beyond the ongoing investigation by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which is currently investigating the conglomerate in response to allegations made by Hindenburg Research last January.

The Adani Group owns ten publicly traded firms, including Adani Port, which was up 2.8% on Friday afternoon trading in Asia. Since the Hindenburg disaster, shares of those companies have been steadily rising.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Adani's net worth was $97.6 billion on Friday, making him the world's 12th richest person, while Ambani's wealth was $97 billion, placing him 13th.

Adani's fortune has increased by $13.3 billion since the beginning of the year, whereas Ambani's has increased by $665 million.

The Adani Group of Ahmedabad, led by Gautam Adani, is a major infrastructure conglomerate in India. It owns the country's largest private port and is a major player in worldwide coal trading. Adani Enterprises, the group's flagship company, reported $17 billion in revenue for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023.

Gautam Adani's fortune is mostly derived from his ownership of six publicly traded firms associated with the Adani Group, the conglomerate he founded.

According to the BBI, Adani's publicly traded companies and stakes (via promoter group and Adani family trust) include Adani Enterprises (73 percent); Adani Green Energy (56 percent); Adani Ports (66 percent); Adani Power (70 percent); Adani Transmission (68 percent); Adani Energy Solutions (73 percent); and Adani Total Gas (37 percent).

Other Indians Among the Top 50

RIL's Ambani is now India's and Asia's second richest man, ranking 13th with a fortune of $97 billion. He has gained $764 million after the last modification and has increased his wealth by $665 million year to date.

Shapoor Mistry, with $34.6 billion, is ranked 38th in the BBI Top 50, and Shiv Nadar, with $33 billion, is ranked 45th.
